The Kateness

Kate Carney was born in a hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, which was not too far from her home in Cicero, IN. However, it's a long way from where she was conceived; Canada. Kate's mother was a musician early in her life, but switched to education. So Kathryn has been pounding on the piano for quite some time, but never with any seriousness.
Kate grew up in, and still lives in, Cicero, Indiana. She had her mother for her Jr. High English teacher. She attended Hamilton Heights High School, and graduated third in her class in 1993

In early 1993, Kate's boyfriend, Barry (not McCabe) decided to start a band, and Kate was made the bass player. Kate had previously had the urge to play bass, but practicality and her left-handedness had prevented her from playing. Consequently, her first day with her first bass was the first band practice for Barry (not McCabe) and Kate's band.

After a long name struggle, that band settled on the name Akira. The band was raw, straight ahead, snotty attitude, punk rock. Corey McCafferty became the drummer, and they played a number of shows; including a couple with Sunny Sea Heaven, Ben's old band.

Alas, Kate broke up with Barry (not McCabe), and got kicked out of Akira. Akira got another bass player, and went downhill. Akira broke up after another six months, and soon after that, Kate's new band, with Ben and Mutual friend Eric, started.

Kate bought a really nice left handed P-Bass to replace her right handed, flipped upside down, Peavey foundation bass. But the band with Eric didn't work out, and Kate was left without a band. She was still friends with Ben, and when she found out that he was doing demos, she got interested in playing again. She heard the demos, and agreed to play bass in Ben's project. Soon after that, they met Barry (McCabe this time) and formed The Sunflower Conspiracy.
